Healey to shield low-income pensioners from income tax in the Budget

State pension from April

13,036.40 pounds a year

The full state pension is expected to rise 3.9 per cent to £13,036.40 from April, above the £12,570 personal allowance.

The chancellor will keep the pledge not to tax people who live on the state pension alone with a new allowance for low-income pensioners. The Treasury has not said how many it will cover.
