Bombardier and BAE Systems sign a deal to explore work on future combat aircraft

What they will assess

  • Research and development
  • Systems integration
  • Workforce and supply chain
  • Industrialization
  • Lifecycle support

Under a memorandum of understanding, the two companies will assess opportunities in these areas.

The deal comes months after Canada joined the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) as an observer. Britain, Italy and Japan launched it in 2022 to develop a stealth fighter by 2035.

Background

Bombardier's defence unit converts business jets into special-mission aircraft. CEO Éric Martel said earlier this year that Canadian and European military spending is creating opportunities.
