An SK Hynix unit seeks US approval to ship chip equipment to its China plant

Solidigm, SK Hynix's flash memory unit, wants to send American chipmaking equipment to its factory in Dalian, China, as a condition for building a plant in the US, according to reports citing anonymous sources. It is considering upstate New York for that plant.

SK Hynix said it is not seeking to expand capacity at its Dalian facility, and that the equipment is being installed with the authorization of the US government.
Background
Washington has restricted exports of chipmaking equipment to China since October 2022, citing national security. It now grants Samsung and SK Hynix an annual licence to send equipment to their Chinese plants.
