Seven tankers of Russian diesel sail towards the US

Greenpeace, which tracked the vessels, says the tankers carry an estimated 288,000 tonnes. It is unclear whether they will be able to unload.

Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin agreed on Oct 9 to 1.8 million tonnes of diesel for the US. Trump announced a six-month waiver on existing sanctions.

US senators warned banks and port authorities of possible investigations if they handle the diesel. New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill called the deal "corrupt and illegal" and is looking at ways to stop any unloading in her state.
