Germany misses its gas storage target as a cold snap sets in

Germany

61.17% full

EU average

75% full

German gas reserves were 61.17 per cent full as of Friday, short of a Nov 1 target of about 70 per cent and of the European Union average of 75 per cent, according to Gas Infrastructure Europe data.

Temperatures in Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich are forecast to fall 2 to 4 °C below normal, and could drop below freezing in southern and eastern Germany, raising demand for heating gas.

European gas futures, highest since 2022

100 euros per MWh

European gas futures passed 100 euros a megawatt-hour last week for the first time since 2022, and prices have tripled this year as the Iran war disrupts energy trade.

Gas comes, in particular, via pipelines from Norway, via LNG terminals, and via our European neighbours.
