Hitachi Energy will build a $479-million transformer insulation factory in London, Ontario

Permanent skilled jobs

100+ jobs

The 21,000-square-metre plant at Huron Street and Veterans Memorial Parkway will create more than 100 permanent manufacturing and engineering jobs, the company says.

Ottawa and Ontario are contributing a combined $50 million. Industry Minister Melanie Joly said more than 20,000 tonnes of wood fibre will be turned into pressboard for the electric grid.

And us?

Ontario Economic Development Minister Vic Fedeli said it will be Canada's first transformer pressboard factory and the largest of its kind in the world.

What's next

Construction is under way, but the factory is not expected to be ready until late 2028.
