GlobalFoundries plans two chip plants in New York with Japanese financing
Investment from Japan
21 US$ billion
The chipmaker said on Wednesday it plans two factories in Malta, New York, financed by an investment of up to US$21 billion from Japan.
The company said the deal was made possible by the U.S. trade and investment agreement with Japan, and President Donald Trump said Washington will receive shares in GlobalFoundries, as it did with Intel.
First plant
US$10 billion, opens 2029
Second plant
US$10 billion
About US$10 billion will speed up a factory due to open in 2029, and the other US$10 billion will fund a second plant.
