South Korea invites North Korea to military talks over their border

Seoul proposed talks to confirm where the Military Demarcation Line lies, restore military communication lines and prevent accidental clashes.

What we know

  • Seoul formally proposed talks on Friday
  • Three South Korean soldiers hurt in Sep 21 blast
  • Last year's offer got no reply

Not yet

  • Whether Pyongyang will agree to talks
  • Who laid the mines: the North denies it

It remains unclear whether North Korea will agree, after it did not answer a similar offer last year.

Kim Yo Jong, the North Korean leader's sister, answered an earlier call for dialogue by calling it “the climax of the farce”.
