French unions call a nationwide strike on Thursday, Nov 5

Sectors called out

  • Public and private schools
  • Urban transport
  • Banks
  • Doctors and pharmacists

For the first time since the autumn, public and private workers are asked to strike the same day, over wages, public services and the government's budget. The CGT counts more than 200 rallies.

Rail and Paris transit forecasts are due Tuesday and air traffic on Wednesday. Most unions speak of a single day, while a yellow-vest group already talks of blockades on Nov 6 and 7.
