First tanker of Russian diesel sets sail for the U.S., the Kremlin says

The first shipment is 40,000 tons of diesel, about 300,000 barrels, according to Russia's deputy prime minister.

New York

A marine intelligence firm said the vessel is headed to New York, due Nov 7. It would be the first Russian diesel delivery to the U.S. since July 2023.

Why it matters

The deal is seen as an attempt to ease fuel prices before the midterms, but experts say it is unlikely to dent them. Ukraine's president called it “a weak decision by strong partners.”
