Andy Burnham vows the UK will hit net zero despite approving the Jackdaw gasfield

The British prime minister says he will block new North Sea licences and keep the country on track for net zero by 2050. Gas from the field will begin heating homes this winter.

"I will not abandon the responsibility we have to future generations."

— Andy Burnham, British prime minister

Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh says only she can decide whether to approve the Rosebank oilfield, a decision sources say she is minded to block.
