Rubio urges Cubans seeking change to partner with the CIA

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote on X that those who want change in Cuba should seize the moment through “a discreet partnership with the CIA”. He pointed to “failed promises, corruption, and the privileged lives of only a few” on the island.

“There must be a great deal of desperation or misery within the agency for it to be forced to sell its services like a tube of toothpaste.”

— Carlos Fernandez de Cossio, Cuban deputy foreign minister

Background

Washington has kept an embargo on Cuba for more than 60 years, and a U.S.-imposed oil blockade this year has brought fuel shortages and blackouts. UN rights experts have called the blockade a violation of international law.
