Sudan faces a new famine risk as aid cuts meet drought
Rainfall from July to September was the lowest in more than three decades across Sudan. In North Darfur it was the lowest since 1984, the year of a famine.
WFP funding
276 $ million for WFP's Sudan work
The World Food Programme had $276 million for its Sudan operation as of Oct 17, less than half of last year's budget, and says it needs $134 million more.
The WFP forecasts 350,000 more people in severe hunger by the end of 2026, and 1.2 million more by August 2027. In June, 5.1 million people already faced severe hunger.
Sudan's agriculture minister said this year's harvest will be lower but "not significantly less" than last year's.
