Hurricane Vance strengthens to Category 2 off Mexico's Pacific coast

Vance had sustained winds of 165 km/h and gusts of 205 km/h on Friday afternoon, Mexico's weather service said.

It could reach Category 3 early Saturday, but its forecast track keeps it at sea. Heavy rain is expected in Michoacán and Guerrero, and waves of up to three metres off Guerrero.

At 3 p.m. local time the centre was 685 km south-southwest of Acapulco, moving northwest at 7 km/h.
