The Justice Department sued on Thursday to block Alaska from certifying its Senate result if Republican incumbent Dan S. Sullivan loses. It says a second candidate, Daniel J. Sullivan, is running to confuse voters.

Democrat Mary Peltola says the lawsuit shows the corruption Alaskans are fed up with. If she wins, Democrats gain one of the four seats they need to take control of the Senate.
