Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado returns from exile

Machado, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, said on social media Sunday she is back in Venezuela: "I am here. With you." She had been in exile for about 10 months.

Her ally Edmundo Gonzalez, the opposition's candidate in the 2024 election, said she is "on Venezuelan soil". She reportedly tried to return at least seven times before.

Acting president Delcy Rodriguez has yet to call an election, and thousands marched this week to demand one. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio credited US-backed reconciliation talks for the conditions of her return.
