Three police officers go on trial in Paris over the death of delivery driver Cédric Chouviat
Years since his death
6 years
Chouviat, 42, died on Jan 5, 2020, after a roadside check in Paris went wrong. The officers are charged with involuntary manslaughter.
On video he filmed, he says "I'm suffocating" nine times in 13 seconds while pinned to the ground. The officers say they did not hear him.
What we know
- Trial set to open Monday, Oct 26
- Charge is involuntary manslaughter
Not yet
- Whether the hearing goes ahead
- Which court will hear the case
The hearing is uncertain: the defence wants a delay, and the family's lawyers argue the court lacks jurisdiction because the case belongs before a criminal assize court.
