Al-Sisi says Egypt will not accept a fait accompli on Nile water
Egypt's president Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi said on Sunday that any bet on Egypt accepting a fait accompli or compromising its water security "is a losing bet". He spoke at the opening of Cairo Water Week.
More than
98 % of Egypt's renewable water is from the Nile
The Nile provides more than 98 per cent of Egypt's renewable water resources, Al-Sisi said.
He said holding a river's headwaters gives no right to unilateral control. He backed prior notification and consultation, and wants that approach applied among Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia.
