The head of Mexico's National Electoral Institute, Guadalupe Taddei, resigns amid a contracts scandal
Taddei said Sunday she will resign to protect the institute's stability and independence, and would formalize it Oct 26 before the Chamber of Deputies, which appointed her in April 2023. A day earlier, she had said she would stay.
Reports linked her to a businessman tied to firms that supply electoral materials, and named her driver as legal representative of one such company. Mexico's federal audit office has opened an investigation.
What we know
- She announced her resignation
- The audit office opened a probe
Not yet
- Whether contracts broke any rules

The allegations are under investigation and nothing has been established, as the institute heads toward the 2027 federal elections.
