Russia halts strikes on Kherson as an Oleshky ceasefire takes effect
Oleshky
Kherson region, Ukraine
The pause began early Tuesday, the Russian Defence Ministry said, to let an aid mission into the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky later this week.
Still in Oleshky, up to
2,000 people, of 24,000 before the war
Up to 2,000 people remain in the town, which had 24,000 before the war. The UN says mines and drone attacks have kept them from leaving.
What's next
Doctors, medicines, food and water go in first, then evacuation corridors open. The ceasefire is due to last through Saturday, or longer.
