The EU proposes wider powers to expel migrants

Brussels wants to grow Frontex, its border agency, from 10,000 to 30,000 border guards over 15 years. Its role in deporting migrants would also grow.

Frontex could help run planned "return hubs" for expelled migrants. The first is expected to open in Rwanda in the coming months.

Member states and the European Parliament must still approve the plan. The left and rights groups criticize it.
