Inquiry finds deaths in Nigerian detention cells were preventable

The inquiry found 50 detainees were held in a cell of about 20 square metres, with no running water or working toilet and too little food, water and air.

Officers reportedly ignored repeated calls for help, even after a medical worker raised concerns, and adults and minors were held together.

The committee recommended compensation for the bereaved families and for survivors.
