Cyclone Arnab makes landfall in India's Andhra Pradesh

Peak wind speed

135 km/h

Arnab crossed India's east coast early Wednesday with winds of up to 135 km/h, felling trees and cutting power. No casualties have been reported so far.

At least 180,000 people were evacuated from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha a day earlier, and flights and trains were cancelled. Authorities say more than 12 million people live in the storm's expected path.

What's next

Nepal has suspended trekking permits for three days over fears Arnab could bring downpours, snowstorms and avalanches from Thursday. Sri Lanka has closed schools over the risk of flash floods and landslides.
