North Korea fires about 10 missiles as a row over a landmine blast intensifies

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the short-range ballistic missiles were fired from around Wonsan into the Sea of Japan, less than a week after Seoul proposed talks.

A landmine blast on Sep 21 injured three South Korean soldiers in the DMZ. A joint South Korea–UN investigation said the North planted the mines; Pyongyang told the UN Security Council that Seoul fabricated the incident.

What's next

Seoul has invited Pyongyang to military talks on restoring communication channels. It is unclear whether North Korea will agree.
