Former El Salvador president Saca is released after 10 years

Elías Antonio Saca, 61, reported to court on Thursday after serving his full corruption sentence. His lawyer says he received no early-release benefits.

Diverted and laundered from public funds, 2004 to 2009

Under a plea deal, Saca confessed to diverting and laundering more than US$300 million in public funds while in office from 2004 to 2009.

The plea bargain let him avoid a possible 30-year sentence. He was also ordered to repay US$260 million to the state.
