Serbia's student-backed winners demand police and judiciary resignations

Newly elected MPs on the Student List called for top figures in the police, intelligence and judiciary to stand down, days after ousting Aleksandar Vučić's party from power. They also want every police officer who broke the law dismissed immediately.

MPs elected on the Student List

141 MPs

All 141 successful candidates were chosen by students from universities across Serbia. They include professors, artists, athletes and as many as 12 doctors and surgeons.

MP Dejan Šoškić, a former central bank governor, wants the media freed, corruption fought and a lustration law passed within six months. It would ban from public office those found to have violated Serbians' rights.

What's next

The handover of power will take weeks, and the movement fears evidence could be destroyed in the meantime. Presidential elections are due in December, and Vučić has promised his party will fight back.
