New York State Police to investigate sexual assault complaints at Cornell
Governor Hochul said all sexual offence complaints at Cornell, historically handled by university police, will now go immediately to New York State Police under a new agreement.
The move follows a lawsuit filed in mid-September by a woman who alleges she was drugged and raped by seven men at a fraternity house in 2024. She also alleges the university failed to protect her.
Hochul said she was "deeply disturbed" by how the investigation was handled. Attorney General Letitia James is overseeing a reopened investigation as special prosecutor.
