Aid reaches Oleshky and evacuations begin under the Kherson ceasefire
Development
A convoy with food and medical supplies has entered the Russian-held town. Up to 2,000 people remain in a town that once held about 24,000, with no electricity, heat or running water.
Seats on 25 evacuation buses
750 seats at least
Twenty-five buses with at least 750 seats are ready to take out anyone who wants to leave, until 2 p.m. local time. Several hundred people are expected to stay.
Evacuees go first through Russian-occupied territory and Anapa, then by plane to Belarus and by road into Ukraine's Chernihiv region. Ukraine's ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said those who stay will still get humanitarian aid.
What we know
- Truce holds in Kherson until Nov 1
- Aid has entered the town
Not yet
- Whether it leads to a wider ceasefire
The six-day truce runs to the end of Sunday, Nov 1. Moscow says Oleshky is an isolated case that should not be read as a broader ceasefire.
