Senate Judiciary Committee chair Chuck Grassley said in a memo Wednesday that the former special counsel's office obtained personal information on 639,000 Republican donors, voters and supporters.

What the memo says was collected

• Home addresses and dates of birth
• Email addresses and credit card details
• Donors who gave from US$1 to US$1,000
• Buyers of red MAGA hats

According to the memo, the subpoena returns held home addresses, dates of birth and the names of donors who gave as little as US$1, as well as buyers of red Make America Great Again hats.

Grassley accuses Smith of an “abuse of authority”, and Smith's lawyers did not respond to a request for comment. Smith led the federal investigation into efforts to reverse Joe Biden's 2020 election win.
