Iran says three tankers struck mines in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran's Revolutionary Guard claimed a supertanker carrying more than 2 million barrels of oil struck a naval mine, caught fire and was abandoned. The claim could not be independently verified.

The US military denies the mine claims, saying all main transit routes through the strait have been cleared of mines.

Separately, the British military reported a tanker caught fire after explosives were attached to its hull. The crew was safe and the ship continued on; it is unclear if the incidents are linked.
