Police Scotland investigates ex-Prince Andrew's time at Balmoral with Epstein
What we know
- Police Scotland has opened an investigation
- It is at a “very preliminary stage”
Not yet
- What the “information” is
- Which offences are being examined
Police Scotland confirms an investigation into the ex-prince's time at the King's private Balmoral estate with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. It began after police received "information" and is at a "very preliminary stage".
Reports say the investigation concerns allegations that women were trafficked to the estate in the Scottish Highlands, but police have not confirmed that. They said they never confirm details of ongoing investigations.
Images released by the US Justice Department appear to show Epstein and Maxwell on a hunt at Balmoral in 1999. Appearing in the files is not, on its own, evidence of wrongdoing.
Background
Thames Valley Police arrested Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office and released him on bail. He has repeatedly denied any crime.
