US judge opens ethics inquiry into government lawyers over a Washington golf course
Judge Ana Reyes of the US District Court for the District of Columbia will appoint a special master. The master will examine whether officials withheld information or made misleading assertions about plans for the East Potomac Golf Links.
What we know
- A special master will examine the lawyers' conduct
- More than 400 trees were removed this month
Not yet
- Whether any lawyer breached ethics rules
The inquiry will not decide whether government lawyers committed misconduct, only whether their conduct breached professional or ethical obligations.

President Donald Trump's posts say the course will close for 15 months from Nov 15 for redevelopment. Agencies had told the judge they could not confirm any such plans.
Background
The DC Preservation League sued in February, arguing the redevelopment could violate environmental protections and damage a historically significant public space.
