Evacuees from occupied Oleshky arrive in Ukraine
Development
President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that evacuees from Oleshky crossed the border in the Chernihiv region. "All of them will receive the assistance they need," he said.
How they got out
- Bus out of Oleshky during the ceasefire
- Through occupied territory to Anapa, Russia
- Flight to Gomel, Belarus
- By road across the border into Ukraine
The evacuees travelled by bus through occupied territory to Anapa in southern Russia, flew to Gomel in Belarus, then drove across the Ukrainian border.
Several hundred people are understood to have stayed in Oleshky, and Ukraine's human rights ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, said they will receive humanitarian assistance. He is the first Ukrainian official to visit Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine since the war began.
