Ethiopia's prime minister puts his ministers through military training

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed posted photos of himself exercising with ministers, deputy ministers and heads of institutions at the Hurso military training centre. It is unclear when the training began or how long it will last.

Abiy said armed forces discipline can build stronger leaders. Senior civilian officials are rarely seen in military training in Ethiopia.

Background

The training comes amid fighting in parts of Tigray, conflict in Amhara, insecurity in Oromia and heightened tensions with Eritrea.
