French cost-of-living protests enter a third Saturday under heavy police presence

Actions counted across France

350 actions

A police source counted 350 actions across France, expected to draw 350,000 to 450,000 people. About 70,000 police officers and gendarmes are deployed.

In Paris, several thousand people marched through residential districts on the city's eastern edge, some in Halloween costumes. Dozens of metro stations are closed, and a curfew applies in parts of the capital from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday nights.

What's planned next

  • Tuesday and Thursday: school and university blockades
  • Thursday: union strike day
  • Nov 6 and 7: Yellow Vests call for more protests

Student and union groups plan to keep up the pressure into next week, with a union strike day set for Thursday.
