South Carolina Republicans push a write-in bid against Trump's Senate pick

A grassroots group called Write-In Ralph urges voters to write in Congressman Ralph Norman for the US Senate. It rejects Senator Darline Graham, the Republican nominee endorsed by Donald Trump.

Background

Darline Graham was appointed after her brother, Senator Lindsey Graham, died suddenly on July 11, the first sibling named to fill a Senate vacancy. She then beat Norman in the August primary.

Not on the ballot

write-in

A write-in candidate is not on the ballot but can be chosen by voters who write the name in themselves. It rarely wins: write-ins took 0.1 per cent of the vote in the state's 2022 Senate race.

Annie Andrews

48%

An October poll had Graham and Democratic challenger Annie Andrews tied at 48 per cent among likely voters. South Carolina has not elected a Democrat to the US Senate since 1998.
