India's weather department said Cyclone Murasu was likely to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast near Ongole overnight Monday, with winds of 100 to 110 km/h and gusts of 120 km/h.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said 6,000 to 8,000 electrical poles could be damaged. Schools closed in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Odisha.

Background

Cyclone Arnab struck the same coastline last week, killing six people and destroying dozens of homes and crops. Murasu was expected to be less intense.
