Martha Stewart apologizes for dressing as a homeless person for Halloween
The 85-year-old posted, then deleted, a photo of herself in torn clothes with dirt on her face, holding a sign that read "I am hungry help me!" The caption promoted her Halloween candles.
First statement
Meant to raise awareness
Sunday's apology
Insensitive and not funny
Her first statement said the costume was meant to raise awareness of homelessness and was never intended to offend. On Sunday she wrote that the earlier statement "didn't go far enough."
“
I know many people are suffering economically. Wearing a costume like I did was insensitive and not funny.
