Jordan's King Abdullah vows to confront terrorism after the Karak church attack

Killed in the Karak church attack

9 dead

The attack on a church in the southern city of Karak, about two weeks ago, killed nine people and wounded dozens.

They are not of us. There is no place for them among us, not today and not tomorrow.

— King Abdullah II, opening parliament in Amman

The king said Jordan would rely first on national unity, backed by the army and security services, which would strike "with an iron fist". He asked lawmakers to stand for a minute of silence for the victims.

Also in the speech

He also called Israeli expansionist ambitions the greatest threat to the region's future, and pledged to protect Jordan's scarce water supplies.
