Xi does not plan to discuss Ukraine with Trump and Putin, Steinmeier says

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said he raised a three-way summit on Ukraine with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing on Friday, and that China is not interested.

“He clearly stressed that this is a European conflict, and Europeans must also be at the negotiating table,” Steinmeier said of Xi.

Trump, Putin and Xi are likely to meet at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Shenzhen on Nov 18 and 19, but Ukraine will not be on the agenda, Steinmeier said.

On Oct 25, Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov said Moscow, Beijing and Washington were in principle ready for such a meeting and that preparations had begun.
