Supreme Court refuses Trump's bid to set aside 20,000 California ballots

Ballots the Justice Department targeted

20,000 ballots

The Justice Department wanted the ballots of 20,000 registered voters set aside, alleging they were likely non-citizens. California officials say the federal list is riddled with inaccuracies and could include eligible voters.

What it means

The court denied the request in a one-line order on Monday, the eve of the midterms, so the rulings of two lower courts stand. California has some 23 million registered voters, and more than six million mail-in ballots had arrived by Sunday night.

If the executive can discount votes and threaten an ongoing election due to unproven allegations, then our democracy is in danger.
