Zaporizhzhia region, southeastern Ukraine

Russian strikes destroyed a school used as a humanitarian aid centre in the village of Komyshuvakha, where remaining residents received aid every week.

Confirmed dead, according to Ukraine's emergency service

24 dead

Ukraine's emergency service confirmed 24 dead, including two rescuers, and the acting regional governor later put the toll at at least 26, with people still under the rubble.

"With such killings, Russia is sending the exact opposite signal: Russia is counting on further killings," President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

Background

The strikes came after a rare local truce allowed civilians to be evacuated from the Russian-held city of Oleshky; the Russian military has not publicly commented.
