Florida picks a governor: Republican Byron Donalds or Democrat David Jolly

No Democrat has won the Florida governor's race since Lawton Chiles in 1994. Jolly, a former Republican congressman who switched parties, ran as a centrist.

Donalds, a congressman who won the Republican nomination with President Donald Trump's backing, would be Florida's first Black governor.

Republicans hold a roughly 1.5 million voter registration advantage, and Donalds led in fundraising. Whoever wins will likely face a Republican-majority legislature.
