Labour MP warns of 'another Windrush' over new settlement rules

Under the Home Secretary's plan, high-rate taxpayers earning over 50,271 pounds can settle after five years, while those earning under 50,000 pounds face a 10-year path.

You can come in legally, you can work legally and then have your residency rights turned upside down. How can that be fair?

Workers facing a 10-year wait, per Creasy

200,000 people

Labour MP Stella Creasy said about 200,000 workers earning under 50,000 pounds, such as scientists and researchers, would now face a 10-year wait.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said settlement is decided under the rules in force when someone applies, and that newcomers must "play their part".
