India's Supreme Court orders the Election Commission to answer Rahul Gandhi's voter-roll challenge

The revision under challenge

Special Intensive Revision

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and 12 other opposition leaders allege large-scale voter deletions in a revision of the electoral rolls, and ask for an independent audit led by a retired Supreme Court judge.

Background

On Oct 12, the opposition INDIA bloc marched to the court with thousands of supporters, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

"Nobody can browbeat us. We are not sitting in ivory towers."

— Chief Justice of India Surya Kant

The court accepted the petition of one leader, Sanjay Raut, only provisionally, until he explains his conduct, and also asked Gandhi to answer a plea against protests on court premises.
