Reform UK councillor resigns after being filmed making racist remarks

Alan Feeney, deputy mayor of Solihull, resigned his seats on Solihull and Birmingham councils on Friday. A year-long undercover TV investigation filmed him calling Asian homeowners “parasites”.

“There is no excuse for my comments,” Feeney wrote on Facebook. He apologized and said the remarks were “wrong, offensive and completely unacceptable”.

Two other councillors filmed with him while canvassing in May’s local elections, Jamie Campbell and Chris Whelan, have also resigned. In London, Hounslow councillors from other parties condemned two Reform members filmed in the same investigation.

Reform UK says it has suspended some councillors and opened investigations. “There is no room for racism in Reform UK,” a spokesperson said, adding that no vetting can screen out a future comment.
