US refuses Burhan a visa for the UN General Assembly

  2. Early October

Trump adviser Massad Boulos meets Burhan, with Egypt as mediator

In September, the US refused Burhan a visa for the UN General Assembly, a move seen as punishment for his doubts about the ceasefire. In early October, Trump's senior adviser Massad Boulos met him, with Egypt as mediator.

Background

The war began in April 2023, when a power struggle between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces turned into open fighting in Khartoum and elsewhere. It is now in its fourth year.
