Hurricane Trudy nears Mexico's west coast as a warning goes up
Manzanillo to Cabo Corrientes
Colima and Jalisco, Mexico
A hurricane warning now covers the coast from Manzanillo, Colima, to Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco. Trudy was forecast to pass near the coast overnight Saturday into Sunday, then weaken.
Maximum sustained winds, Saturday
150 km/h
Early Saturday, the storm was about 305 km south-southeast of Manzanillo with maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h, the US National Hurricane Center said.
The risks
- 10 to 20 cm of rain, up to 38 cm
- Flooding and landslides
- Storm surge and destructive waves
- Dangerous surf and rip currents
Forecasters expect 10 to 20 cm of rain, and up to about 38 cm in places, across parts of Michoacán, Colima and Jalisco. Flooding and landslides could be life-threatening, especially in steep terrain.
What's next
Mexico's navy urged coastal residents and sailors to take extreme caution, and Colima warned that ground already soaked by earlier storms adds to the risk.
