Thousands march in Tunis against President Kais Saied

Marchers, by one count

3,000+ people

Saturday's march, led by the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) with opposition parties, was the largest against Saied in years; one count put it at more than 3,000 people.

What the marchers want

  • Release of detained government critics
  • An end to limits on union rights
  • Relief from the cost of basic goods

Lawyers, doctors, journalists and the unemployed demanded the release of detained critics, an end to limits on union rights and relief from rising prices.

Union leader Salah Eddine Salmi criticized the concentration of power in the presidency and said "silence will no longer be acceptable".
