Zelensky says Washington is working on a meeting with Putin
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters on Oct 17 that the United States has proposed a three-way meeting of the leaders of Ukraine, the United States and Russia.
Possible venues
- United Arab Emirates or Saudi Arabia
- Miami, during the G20 summit
- A European country
The meeting could be held in the Middle East, in the United States during the G20 summit in Miami in December, or in a European country, he said.
What we know
- The United States has a proposal, Zelensky says
- The Kremlin says Moscow is the only venue
Not yet
- Where and when a meeting could happen
- Whether Putin will attend the G20
Neither Washington nor Moscow has confirmed the meeting, and the Kremlin said in September that Putin would meet Zelensky only in Moscow.
Background
The two leaders have met in person only once, on Dec 9, 2019, in Paris, at a summit with the leaders of France and Germany.
